ABOUT DARKNESS TO LIGHT

Gary F. Zeolla is the founder and director of Darkness to Light. For more about the director, see My Life Story on Zeolla.org.

Darkness to Light began by publishing a hardcopy newsletter in July 1991 then both a hardcopy and an email version in July 1996. The newsletter ceased publication in September 1998 after having published 34 issues. But in September of 2003 a new email newsletter began publication. Since it had been so long since the newsletter had been published, the first issue of the new newsletter was numbered volume 1, number 1. This website was first set up in July 1996 as a “user” site on a local ISP. The site was moved to its current main domain URL in July 1998. All articles from of all eight years worth of back issues of the hardcopy newsletter are posted on this site, along with many materials that were never published in the newsletter. Articles from the current newsletter are being posted after they have appeared in the newsletter.

Darkness to Light’s website is dedicated to God Almighty for His use in giving people an understanding of what the Christian faith teaches, and why. It is hoped He will use this site to lead people to realize that a commitment to Jesus Christ and the Christian worldview is intellectually defensible.

For those who have already committed their lives to Christ, a better understanding of the teachings of Christian faith will enable them to, “... grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).

The name for this ministry is taken from the following verse:

"... to open their eyes, in order to turn them from DARKNESS TO LIGHT, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in [Christ]" (Acts 26:18).

The words “darkness” and “light” have a wide range of meanings when used metaphorically in Scripture. But basically, “darkness” refers to falsehood and unrighteousness while “light” refers to truth and righteousness. People turn from darkness to light when they come to believe the teachings of the Bible and live in accordance with them.

"Explaining and Defending the Christian Faith"

Above is the purpose statement for Darkness to Light. Looking at the last phrase first, the Christian faith refers to the essential doctrines of Christianity (Jude 3). The article titled Essentials of "the Faith" elaborates on this idea. Darkness to Light's Confession of Faith lists what this ministry believes are these essential doctrines.

As for the first point, there is a great need for the Christian faith to be explained today (Acts 18:26). This is especially true here on the Internet where misconceptions abound about what the Christian faith entails.

In addition, there are many attacks being made on the Christian faith throughout cyberspace (and in real space). So the Christian faith needs to be defended (1Peter 3:15).

Lastly, this ministry realizes there is a need to declare, "the whole counsel of God" (Acts 20:27). So there are articles posted on this website which address important though non-essential doctrines. When discussing such topics, Darkness to Light generally presents a Reformed-Baptist perspective. But the emphasis is always on explaining and defending the essentials of the Christian faith (1Tim 4:6-16).

Supporting this Website

Darkness to Light is not incorporated as a tax-exempt organization, so donations are not tax deductible. The same goes for my other websites: Fitness for One and All, Biblical and Constitutional Politics, and Zeolla.org. The reason they are not is I prefer to work for my income, and it is my personal income that enables all of my websites to operate.

My personal income comes primarily through sales of my books. Thus, rather than donations, what I prefer and would be more helpful long-term would be if those looking to support this website or any of my websites would be to purchase my books.

After you read each book, if you want to take it a step further, then write a review of it on Amazon. That would foster more book sales, which would be most helpful in the long run. And more importantly, that will mean more people might benefit from my writings.

Note that the articles on this website are available free of charge to anyone who cares to read them, just as the articles on my other websites are freely available to all. As such, you could encourage others to check out my websites.

In addition, all of my websites are free of the advertising that clutter most websites. The most you will see is an occasional mention of one of my books or an advertising link to a product on Amazon. It is through the sales of my books or commissions for sales through one of those Amazon links that I keep this and my other websites going.

Again, after you read one of my books, write a review on Amazon and/ or wherever you purchased it. That will help others to decide to purchase it. You could also subscribe to my Christian newsletter or my fitness newsletter and encourage others to do so as well.

Health and Powerlifting articles: At one time, this website contained articles dealing with health and powerlifting. But on July 12, 2003 all of these articles were moved to the director’s new Fitness for One and All website.
