Thoughts on the Assassination of Charlie Kirk
Part Six
(More Left-Wing Terrorism; Initial Hearing for Alleged Assassin)
This multi-part article is continued from Thoughts on the Assassination of Charlie Kirk: Part Five (Another Targeted Attack by the Left; Coming Full Circle; Kirk’s Alleged Assassin’s Court Appearance).
Another Targeted Attack by the Left
A shooter opened fire on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Dallas on Wednesday [9/25/25], killing one detainee and critically wounding two others, investigators said. The gunman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and left behind ammunition that bore the phrase “ANTI-ICE” in blue writing, according to officials (NYT. At Least).
The most recent statement from DHS, the parent agency of ICE, states:
This morning, a deranged gunman attacked a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Dallas field office from a nearby rooftop. The shooter fired indiscriminately at the ICE building, as well as at a van in the sallyport where the victims were shot. Three detainees were shot. Two are deceased, and the other is in critical condition. The gunman was found with a self-inflicted gun wound.
The post confirms the “Anti-ICE” shell casings first reported by Director Patel. “This was an attack on ICE law enforcement,” DHS officials stated (Breitbart. Sniper).
[Note: The initial report was that two detainees were killed, but that was latter corrected to one. But one of the injured later died in the hospital, so the original report is now correct.]
The FBI earlier said it’s investigating the shooting as a “targeted attack” against ICE, with the suspect being identified as Joshua Jahn. The shooting happened while ICE officers were taking detainees into the agency’s Dallas facility….
Jahn, 29, also conducted several searches of ballistics and the “Charlie Kirk Shot Video“ from Sept. 23–24, Patel said, adding that between Aug. 19 and Aug. 24, the suspect “searched apps that tracked the presence of ICE agents.”
Patel also revealed that Jahn had a handwritten note, reading, “Hopefully this will give ICE agents real terror, to think, is there a sniper with AP rounds on that roof?” (Fox News. Dallas).
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem called out the far-left’s “rhetoric” in an X post.
“For months, we’ve been warning politicians and the media to tone down their rhetoric about ICE law enforcement before someone was killed,” Noem wrote. “These horrendous killings must serve as a wake-up call to the far-left that their rhetoric about ICE has consequences.
“Comparing ICE day-in and day-out to the Nazi Gestapo, the Secret Police, and slave patrols has consequences. The men and women of ICE are fathers and mothers, sons and daughters. They get up every morning to try and make our communities safer. Like everyone else, we just want to go home to our families at night.
“The violence and dehumanization of these men and women who are simply enforcing the law must stop. We are praying for the victims and their families” (Newsmax. Report: Dallas).
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) raged at Democrats for “demonizing” ICE following an attack on a Dallas facility on Wednesday morning….
This needs to stop. Violence is wrong. Politically motivated violence is wrong. It was two weeks ago today that we saw a political assassination in Utah that tore the heart out of much of this country. This is the third shooting in Texas directed at ICE or CBP [Customs and Border Patrol]. This must stop. To every politician who is using rhetoric demonizing ICE and demonizing CBP, stop! To every politician demanding that ICE agents be doxed and calling for people to go after their families, stop! This has very real consequences.
Look, in America we disagree, that’s fine, that is the democratic process, but your political opponents are not Nazis! We need to learn to work together without demonizing each other, without attacking each other. And I want to say thank you. I want to say thank you to the brave men and women of law enforcement. I want to say thank you to The brave men and women of ICE and CBP and everyone who puts their lives on the to keep us safe. The divisive rhetoric tragically has real consequences (Mediaite. Ted Cruz Rages).
Noem and Cruz are completely correct. This latest political violence can be laid at the feet of the violent left and its hate-filled political rhetoric. But the left is trying to defend itself and its hate-filled rhetoric by saying that no ICE agents were killed but only detainees.
That is true. However, the shooter actually fired 20 shots, also hitting the ICE facility and an American flag hanging outside of it. That he was a bad shot does not change his clear motive. Also, the inscription on the ammo and his note clearly indicate his motivation was to terrorize ICE agents, and he used the apps leftists have created to track ICE agents.
The assassin who opened fire on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility Wednesday intended to kill federal officers, according to border czar Tom Homan, who has long warned hostile political rhetoric against immigration enforcement fuels violence.
“I don’t think he shot at illegal aliens,” Homan, who says he can no longer live at home due to constant threats on his life, told Newsmax‘s “Finnerty.” “The agents that we’re talking to, agents I’ve talked to, said he was shooting at the building. Shooting at a van….
“Matter of fact, some of the bullets went into where the director sits,” Homan continued. “He shot many rounds into the building. He went down the whole length of the building and he concentrated on the van….
“He saw activity. He saw officers coming in and out of the van because what they’re doing is dropping off aliens and picking up. So I think he’s just firing at the van hoping to hit an ICE officer, but he didn’t” (Newsmax. Tom Homan).
Coming Full Circle
We have now come full circle. This multi-part article began with the assassination of Charlie Kirk by a gunman on a rooftop who was motivated by the hateful rhetoric and lies the left had been telling about Kirk, with the left disavowing the shooter was a leftist and claiming his motive is not known, despite all of the evidence indicating he was motivated by leftist ideology.
We now have a gunman on a rooftop who was motivated by the hateful rhetoric and lies the left has been telling about ICE and Border Patrol agents, with the left disavowing the shooter was a leftist and claiming his motive is not known, despite all of the evidence indicating he was motivated by leftist ideology.
The left will try to evade this conclusion by saying such shooters are just deranged people and not representative of the left in general, as Kimmel tried to do.
However:
“Charlie Kirk was speaking hateful words, and his murder was tragic but understandable,” said 54% of liberals and almost half of Democrats. Only 9% of Republicans polled found Kirk’s killing “understandable.” …
The Rasmussen survey was conducted from Sept. 16-18 from 1,165 likely U.S. voters and carried a margin of error of ±3 percentage points (Newsmax. Rasmussen).
This agreement by the majority of those on the left with the assassination of Kirk is because they believed the lie, “Charlie Kirk was speaking hateful words.” I would bet a similar poll would find the majority of liberals would find the murder of ICE and Border Patrol agents, “understandable” as well, as they probably also believe the lie that they are Nazis, Gestapo, and Secret Police.
The way to solve this problem is not with pleading for the left to stop its hateful rhetoric and lies. If two assassination attempts against Trump, the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the ongoing attacks on ICE and Border Patrol agents, and the many other incidents of violence by the left against the right will not stop them, no amount of pleading will.
The only answer is what Charlie lived and died for—the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Only the transforming power of Christ, the Prince of Peace, the One who declared Himself to be “the Way and the Truth and the Life” can turn a hateful and lie-believing heart into one that favors peace and can discern truth from lies (Isa 9:6; John 14:6).
Here’s praying that the revival foreshadowed by Charlie’s memorial comes to fruition, and we see the Gospel of Christ sweep across the USA, transforming lives and our culture. That is how we will truly Make America Great Again.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott told Newsmax that the assassination of conservative leader Charlie Kirk has ignited a nationwide “revival,” saying faith is the strongest power guiding both individuals and the country….
“We see the importance of faith being elevated as we’ve seen the response to what happened to Charlie Kirk,” Abbott said.
“I’m so proud of our fellow Americans to come out and reveal their faith and show their faith, because I believe faith is the strongest power that exists. And if we’re all guided by our faith, we’re going to be achieving God’s will far better.”
Abbott tied that message to his personal faith.
“It’s my faith in God that sets me straight, puts me back on the right path,” he said.
“I think the same could be true for us as a nation. If we can be a nation of faith once again, it will ensure that our nation is on the right pathway” (Newsmax. Gov. Abbott).
Penn State vs. Oregon
On Saturday night, September 27th, the undefeated #3 Penn State Nittany Lions played the undefeated #6 Oregan Ducks at Beaver Stadium in Happy Valley. I’m mentioning this here, as Charlie Kirk was supposed to be at the game, as the Ducks were his favorite team, through he was said to be a Penn State fan as well.
Conservative activist Benny Johnson was at the game. FNC interviewed him that morning, with a bunch of screaming Penn State students behind him. They were all wearing white, as it was to be a “white out” night at Beaver Stadium. But their white T-shirts had “Freedom” printed in blue on the front, a tribute to Charlie Kirk.
Sadly, Charlie was not mentioned during the game. I did not watch the pregame, so I don’t know if he was mentioned then or not. But if Charlie had been there, he would have been shouted down by the 113,000 screaming Penn State fans.
There was a rare green jersey in the crowd, amidst the sea of white. Charlie would have been one of those green shirts. But he was used to being outnumbered at college campuses, so he would have enjoyed the game. In fact, it was a very exciting game, going into double-overtime, with the Ducks pulling out a 30-24 win with an interception for the last play of the game.
However, I was reminded in the third quarter of one reason I gave up on professional sports years ago, that being instant replay ruining the excitement of the game. Penn State forced a turnover as the Ducks were moving in for a score and returned it for about 40 yeads, ending with the ball on the Duck’s 40-yard line. It looked like a turning point in the game in favor of the Nittany Lions.
But then after the commercial break, we were told replay showed the runner was down, so the ball was back in the Duck’s hands inside the ten-yard line. The replay, if you slowed it down to super slo-mo and viewed it frame by frame, did show the runner’s knee grazed the grass. And that ended up being a turning point in the Duck’s favor, as they took it in for a score.
I know some will says we need to “get it right.” But IMO, such play reversals ruin the excitement and flow of the game. I discuss another way instant replay does so and other reason I got fed up with professional sports so in my autobiography The Lord Stood By Me and Gave Me Strength.
This was in fact the first time I watched an entire football game, or any sporting event for that matter since 2019 (except powerlifting contests I have competed in). And even then, after that play reversal I began fast-forwarding much of the rest of the game.
And yes, college
football is now “professional” with players getting paid for the use of their
“image and likeness.”
Left-Wing Terrorism Spikes Past Right-Wing Terrorism
An in-depth look at the ideology of domestic terror attacks in the U.S. has revealed that 2025 set a 30-year high for radical left extremism, according to the nonpartisan Center for Strategic & International Studies …
Not only is the left more violent, but the right is markedly less violent under President Donald Trump this year (Newsmax. Study).
Our analysis of terrorism trends in the United States shows that, indeed, left-wing violence has risen in the last 10 years, particularly since President Donald Trump’s rise to political prominence in 2016, although it has risen from very low levels and remains much lower than historical levels of violence carried out by right-wing and jihadist attackers. More contentious politics in the United States and the expansion of the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement appear to have reenergized violent left-wing extremists.
The left-wing movement as a whole has not returned to its violent heights of the 1960s and 1970s, but the number of terrorist incidents involving left-wing extremists so far this year puts 2025 on pace to be the left’s most violent year in more than three decades. Moreover, 2025 marks the first time in more than 30 years that left-wing attacks outnumber those from the far right….
Anti-government extremism. Partisan extremism includes attacks and plots against elected officials, political candidates, political party officials, and political staff and workers from terrorists with opposing political views….
Finally, although leaders are not responsible for extremists in their midst, they are responsible for how they behave toward extremists. U.S. political leaders and activists need to lead by condemning violence on their side and calling for calm when it involves violence on the other side. The American Muslim response to jihadist terrorism offers a useful model. Muslim leaders came together to repeatedly condemn jihadist violence, and this reduces the appeal of terrorism. When the mainstream condemns an attack, the individual is less likely to be seen, and see themselves, as a hero or successful agitator, and the community as a whole is more likely to work with law enforcement (Center … Left-Wing).
The entire report is 13 pages long. But the gist is, right-wing violence used to outnumber left-wing violence, but as of this year (2025), left-wing violence outnumbers right-wing violence. Though it must be noted, the Center is counting White Supremacists as right-wing. True conservatives like this writer would staunchly disagree with that equation, as true conservatives believe all lives matter. Eliminate that group, and the equation would be different.
But whatever the case, this means CNN would have been correct when they “fact-checked” Trump’s Kirk memorial speech by saying he was wrong when he said most of the violence was coming from the left, if this were last year. But for this year, once again, Trump was correct.
That last paragraph from the Center is important and has been of theme of this series of articles. But sadly, many on the left, including in the media, did not soundly condemn the assassination of Kirk. They instead celebrated it or at least justified it. And their heated rhetoric continued unabated, which could have contributed to the subsequent attack on the Texas ICE center.
That rhetoric will lead to more such attacks if it does not stop. But sadly, it shows no signs of doing so, with protests over ICE and heated rhetoric against them continuing across the country.
Initial Hearing for Alleged Assassin
Charlie Kirk’ alleged assassin, Tyler James Robinson, had a court hearing Monday, September 29, 2025. Prior to this, there had been a defense attorney assigned to him. She is a seasoned defense lawyer.
The Utah County Commission has approved an agreement naming Kathryn N. Nester as lead defense counsel for Tyler Robinson, the man charged with capital murder in the killing of conservative leader Charlie Kirk, the Deseret News reported….
She is known for meticulous case preparation and expertise in death-penalty litigation (Newsmax. Suspect).
We the taxpayers are paying for this defense lawyer. It is part of the “Miranda rights” you hear read to suspects on many TV cops shows, “You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you.” And it will cost us an estimated $1 million to pay for both the defense and prosecution in this case.
That said, the hearing ended up being quite a waste. It was just an initial hearing to decide if there would be a preliminary hearing. The prosecution and defense teams were both introduced, four men and one woman on the former and one woman and two men on the latter.
The defense team had not yet been given the “voluminous amount of evidence” the prosecution team said it had. The defense said once it got that evidence they would need 30-60 days to review it.
The prosecution also said they could not give a witness list, as there were potentially 2,000-3,000 witnesses, all of those who attended the event at which Charlie was shot.
Robinson himself did not appear at the hearing. He only listened in remotely but was not shown by prior agreement. But it was agreed that he would appear in person at the next hearing. That was set for October 30th. At that time, it will be determined if there will be a preliminary hearing.
If there will be, that hearing will be to determine if there is sufficient evidence to go to trial. It will be a mini-trial in that there will be evidence presented, witnesses testifying, and cross-examinations. The standard of proof will be low. The prosecution will only have to show there is substantial evidence that Robinson probably is guilty. If that is done, then a trial date will be set.
Bottom line is, these proceedings will drag on for quite some time. The trial itself probably will not begin until next year. That is the defense’s goal—to drag things out so that the outrage over the assassination lessens, and memories fade, making it harder for the prosecution to prove its case and for the public to support the death penalty.
I am not sure if I will continue to cover the proceedings or not. Frome here, it will mostly be legal mumble-jumbo, that I am ill-equipped to comment upon. But I will say, the defense will have its job cut out for it, as the evidence against Robinson seems quite substantial to me.
