Trump is Working "to get to heaven"
(A Monumental Mistake)
As he tries to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine, President Donald Trump said it is for greater reasons than merely Nobel Peace Prize nominations: He is hoping it helps him “get to heaven.”
“If I can save 7,000 people per week from being killed – I want to get to heaven, if possible; I’m hearing I’m not doing well,” Trump said in a televised phone interview Tuesday morning. “If I can get to heaven, this will be a reason” (Newsmax. Trump: ‘Trying).
After his near assassination on July 13, 2024, it is obvious to this writer that Trump has been thinking about spiritual matters. His statement for Holy Week demonstrated that fact. It was a very clear articulation of the historical events and message of that most important week in human history. I cover his comments under “Trump’s Physical and Holy Week Message” at Political Commentaries for Q2 of 2025: Part One.
In that message, Trump wrote, “Through His [Jesus’] suffering, we have redemption. Through His death, we are forgiven of our sins. Through His Resurrection, we have hope of eternal life.” But Trump seems to not have thought through the full implications of what he wrote.
It is not just that Jesus opened the door for us to be redeemed and forgiven by His death on the cross. And that “hope” of eternal life brought about by His resurrection is not a “wish” type of hope but a “confident expectation” type of hope.
In other words, we can know we are redeemed, forgiven, and saved because of what Christ has done for us. We just need to trust in Him and His death for our sins and believe in His resurrection, and we are assured of eternal life. Works have not place in it.
The reason Trump will get to heaven is not because of his actions as a peacemaker, as important as that is. It will be because he has trusted fully and solely on Christ for his salvation. I hope and pray he makes that commitment and stops trusting in his own works. I pray the same for the reader.
1Therefore, having been justified [or, declared righteous] by faith, we have peace toward God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom also we have the access [or, privilege to enter] by faith into this grace in which we have stood, and we boast [or, rejoice] in the hope [or, confident expectation] of the glory of God! 3But not only [this], but we also boast [or, take pride] in afflictions, knowing that affliction produces patient endurance, 4and patient endurance proven character, and proven character hope [or, confident expectation], 5and hope [or, confident expectation] does not disappoint [us], because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by [the] Holy Spirit, the One having been given to us!
6For Christ, while we were still weak [or, helpless], at the right time, died on behalf of ungodly [people]. 7For scarcely [or, only rarely] will anyone die on behalf of a righteous [person]; for perhaps someone even dares [or, might be prepared] to die on behalf of the good [person]. 8But God demonstrates His own love to [or, for] us, [in] that us still being sinful [people] [fig., while we were still sinners], Christ died on our behalf!
9Much more then, having been justified [or, declared righteous] now by His blood, we will be saved from the wrath through Him. 10For if, being enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we will be saved by His life. 11But not only [this], but we also boast [or, rejoice] in God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we now received the reconciliation (Romans 5:1-11; ALT3c).
8But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” [Deut 30:14]—that is, the word of the faith which we are preaching, 9that if you confess with your mouth [the] Lord Jesus [or, [that] Jesus [is] Lord], and believe in your heart that God raised Him from [the] dead, you will be saved! [cp. 1Cor 12:3] 10For with the heart it is believed to righteousness, and with the mouth it is confessed to salvation.
11For the Scripture says, “Everyone believing on [or, trusting in] Him will not be put to shame.” [Isaiah 28:16, LXX] 12For there is no difference [or, distinction] [between] both Jew and Greek, for the same [Lord is] Lord of all, being rich [fig., giving generously] to all the ones calling on Him. 13For every[one], “who himself shall call on the name of [the] Lord will be saved!” [Joel 2:32] (Romans 10:8-13; ALT3c).
