The Elder, To [the] chosen Kyria [or, elect lady] and to her children, whom I love in truth; and not I only, but also all the ones having come to know the truth, 2on account of the truth which abides in us and will be with us into the age [fig., forever]. 3Grace, mercy, [and] peace will be with us, from God [the] Father and from [the] Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

I greatly rejoiced that I have found [some] of your children walking about [fig., conducting themselves] in truth, just as we received a commandment from the Father. 5And now I urgently ask you, Kyria, not as writing to you a new commandment, but [the one] which we were having from the beginning, that we should be loving one another. [cp. 1John 3:11] 6And this is love, that we are walking about [fig, conducting ourselves] according to His commandments. This is the commandment, just as you heard from the beginning that you should be walking about in it. [cp. John 14:15]

Because many deceivers entered into the world, the ones not confessing Jesus Christ [as] coming in [the] flesh; this is the deceiver and the antichrist.[cp. 1John 4:1-3] 8Be watching yourselves so that we do not lose what we worked for, but [that] we shall receive a full reward. 9Every one transgressing and not abiding in the teaching [or, doctrine] of Christ does not have God. The one abiding in the teaching [or, doctrine] of Christ, this one has both the Father and the Son. 10If anyone comes to you* and does not bring this teaching [or, doctrine], stop receiving him into [your] house, and stop saying to him, “Rejoice!” [or, stop greeting him]. 11For the one saying to him, “Rejoice!” [or, the one greeting him] contributes to [or, shares in] his evil works.

Having many [things] to be writing to you*, I did not intend [to do so] through a sheet of papyrus and ink, but I hope [or, expect] to come to you* and to speak mouth to mouth [fig., face to face], so that our joy shall have been filled. [cp. 1John 1:4]

The children of your chosen [or, elect] sister greet you. So be it!
